Lightning GM Steve Yzerman discusses Drouin suspension

The Tampa Bay Lightning indefinitely suspended forward Jonathan Drouin on Wednesday after he failed to report to an AHL game. This comes more than two weeks after Drouin went public with a trade request from the Lightning.

Drouin’s agent, Allan Walsh, said in a statement Wednesday that the Lightning “indicated that a trade involving Jonathan was moving closer to completion” and that Walsh requested Drouin sit out AHL games to avoid risking an injury that could damage the chance for a trade.

Lightning GM Steve Yzerman responded publicly to the Drouin saga on Thursday, saying that the team never indicated a trade was close.

Coach Cooper on facing Chicago Blackhawks

Chicago, the defending Stanley Cup champion, returns for the first time to Tampa to face the Lightning Thursday night.

The Blackhawks roll into town with 12 straight wins, a franchise record for one of the league’s original six franchises. The Lightning enter the game on their own streak, having won six consecutive games. Tampa Bay has scored three or more goals in those six games, their longest stretch this season scoring three or more.
