SPORTS CLUB HALL OF FAME
Induction ceremony scheduled for Feb. 12
The Sports Club of Tampa Bay will induct three people — Luis Gonzalez, Vinny Testaverde and Tony Saladino Jr. — into its Hall of Fame on Wednesday, Feb. 12, during its banquet at the Embassy Suites USF from 6 to 8 p.m. Tickets are $45 (or $85 for two).
Gonzalez, who was on the ballot this year for the Baseball Hall of Fame, is a Jefferson High graduate who had 2,591 career hits and an RBI single that clinched Game 7 of the 2001 World Series.
Testaverde, a Heis-man Trophy winning-quarterback from the University of Miami and the No. 1 overall draft pick of the Buccaneers in 1987, had 46,233 passing yards and 275 touchdowns during a 21-season NFL career.
Saladino, a retired Hillsborough County teacher, instituted a high school baseball tournament in 1981 that has become one of the nation’s signature events.
The newest inductees will bring the Hall of Fame membership to 74.
Banquet proceeds benefit the Boys and Girls Clubs, along with other Tampa Bay youth sports organizations. For information or to purchase tickets, call Lou Bowers at (813) 985-1476 or email [email protected] tampabay.rr.com.
