TALLAHASSEE - Florida State junior catcher Buster Posey was named the Louisville Slugger National Player of the Year on Thursday by Collegiate Baseball, the third time in four seasons an FSU player has won the award.
"We are very proud," FSU coach Mike Martin said. "It's a credit to him. There ain't many that can stand up to what this guy is all about."
Posey currently leads the nation in hitting (.467), on-base percentage (.567) and slugging percentage (.864). Posey is the fourth Seminole to be named the nation's top player, joining J.D. Drew (1997), Tampa Jesuit graduate Shane Robinson (2005) and former Bloomingdale star Tony Thomas Jr., who claimed the award last season.
