Gibbs, Rivera Earn Wins
TAMPA - TAMPA - During Ahsandi Gibbs' training sessions prior to his bout Friday against Ben Aragon, he experienced a eureka moment. "When I was training leading up to this fight, I was getting my hips into my punches," said Gibbs (8-0). "I've really been working on that." It took four rounds for Gibbs' punches to take their toll and when they did, a crushing right hook, followed by a left, floored Aragon (7-11-2, 5 KOs) at the 1:28 mark of the third round at Fight Night at the Pavilion. "I guess that's what happens," he said, grinning. "Maybe next time I'll get them a little quicker."In the main event, Carlos Rivera (13-3-2, 4 KOs) scored a dominating unanimous decision victory against heated rival Carlos Diaz (9-13-4, 7 KOs). Rivera dropped Diaz in the second and hurt him at least two additional times in the fight. "I knew it was going to be a tough fight, I've known Carlos for years and he always comes at you," Rivera said. "He's got a lot of heart, I've got the biggest heart and look who won." Jenna Shiver dominated Renee Richardt-Douglas (11-7-1, 4 KOs) in their four-round bout, earning an unanimous decision victory. Shiver (7-3, 2 KOs) scored a first-round knockdown with a left hand and several punishing rights.
