Trop goes to dogs with Bark in the Park at Rays game
TAMPA - You expect to see hot dogs at the ballpark. But at Tropicana Field, Sunday was a day for the four-footed variety, too, as the Tampa Bay Rays hosted the team's first Bark in the Park. A special seating area was reserved for dog owners and their pets. The sprawling Party Deck was turned into a "Dog Zone" with product samples, a pet adoption booth hosted by SPCA of Tampa Bay, and activities for dogs and their owners. A leash was required as part of the uniform but some owners also tried to dress the pooch like their favorite Ray – a hairy, bespectacled Joe Maddon, for example.Bark in the Park seating sold out before the game started. The 1:40 p.m. game against the Baltimore Orioles also features some other fan favorites, including a post-game concert by the Wiggles, the Australian band for children, and – not to be upstaged by the canines – mascot DJ Kitty in a bobblehead giveaway.
