Rays SS Escobar injures left hand
Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Yunel Escobar was forced to leave Saturday's 9-3 loss to the Colorado Rockies in the top of the second inning when he was struck on the left hand by an 86-mph fastball from Rockies starter Jon Garland. Escobar skipped up the third base line and slammed his batting helmet on the ground. He was sent to an area hospital for X-rays, which were negative. Escobar is being listed as day-to-day with a left hand contusion. Manager Joe Maddon said Escobar will miss two to three games. Ben Zobrist, who started at second base, moved over to shortstop. Zobrist will play there in place of Escobar just as he had during thefirst four games of this road trip when Escobar was out with tightness in his right hamstring.
