PORT CHARLOTTE – The Rays signed left-hander Eric Bedard to a minor-league contract Thursday with an invite to spring training.
Bedard, a 10-year-veteran who was 11-26 with a 4.79 ERA over the past two seasons while pitching for Pittsburgh and Houston, will add depth to the cast of starting pitchers at the major-league and Triple-A levels.
The Rays added Nate Karns on Thursday, acquiring the right-hander from Washington in a trade for Jose Lobaton.
Bedard, who turns 35 next month, is 67-76 with a 3.94 ERA. He’s pitched for Baltimore, Seattle and Boston.
The Rays will have 64 players in camp.
Pitchers and catchers report today to the Rays’ spring training complex at Charlotte Sports Park in Port Charlotte.
