Rays send Colome back to the minors
CLEVELAND - Alex Colome, who came up from Triple-A Durham on Thursday to help pitch the Rays past the Marlins in Miami, is headed back to Durham. The Rays are using the roster spot for left-handed reliever Jeff Beliveau, who was recalled Friday afternoon to add an extra arm to the bullpen tonight as the Rays begin a three-game series against the Indians. Chris Archer will start Saturday’s game against the Indians, and it would appear Beliveau will head back to Durham to clear a spot on the roster. If so, it will be the second time this month Beliveau was called up for a one-day stint. He also joined the bullpen May 19 in Baltimore, but wasn’t needed because Matt Moore went seven innings and Joel Peralta and Fernando Rodney finished off the Orioles in a 3-1 win. Beliveau went back to Durham and the Rays used his roster spot for Jake Odorizzi, who started the following afternoon in Toronto. As luck would have it for Beliveau, Moore is pitching tonight. Moore, 8-0 with a 2.21 ERA, will try to become the major leagues’ first nine-game winner. It could be a wet one, too, with rain in the forecast. A quick shower already had the grounds crew at Progressive Field scrambling to put the tarp on the infield.
