Tampa Bay Rays pitchers and catchers don’t officially report to spring training for another 14 days, but it’s not too early for the team to start preparing.
On Thursday, the team’s clubhouse staff began loading equipment and supplies from Tropicana Field in preparation for the team’s spring stay in Port Charlotte.
Equipment was gathered, boxes taped up, and carts full of supplies were loaded and set for the 1 1/2-hour trip to the team’s spring base.
Among the items: A beer tap labeled “Joe’s Office,” which no doubt will have a special place in Manager Joe Maddon’s office.
The Rays’ first spring training game is Feb. 28 in Port Charlotte against Baltimore.
