CINCINNATI – Tampa Bay left-hander Matt Moore rejoined the team Friday afternoon and said he will throw in a few days, likely when the team reaches Baltimore on Monday, before deciding on a course of action with his left elbow.
Rays manager Joe Maddon said the team is calling the injury a “strain.”
There is a small tear in Moore’s left UCL, but they are not sure if it is new or something he’s had for a while. Team doctor Dr. Koco Eaton will review all of Moore’s MRIs – the ones taken this week and the ones taken in past years – to get a better handle on the injury.
Moore said he would rather avoid surgery unless that is his lone option.
That Moore maintains the injury does not feel as severe as it did last summer when he was forced to the DL for more than a month is seen as a good sign.
In related news, Cesar Ramos has been named Sunday’s starter. Maddon said Ramos has a chance to hold on to that spot in the rotation.
Erik Bedard will likely join the Rays on Sunday and take over Ramos’ spot as long man in the bullpen.
