Whether they were going to toast a victory or drown sorrows, Tampa Bay Rays manager Joe Maddon had already planned to treat the team to a party after Tuesday night’s game against the Los Angeles Angels in Anaheim, Calif.
Turns out the Rays had something to celebrate, and Maddon even attempted to get fans involved through a invitation on Twitter.
Maddon treated the team to a “Win or Weep” party at Legends sports bar in nearby Long Beach after the 7-1 victory.
Maddon borrowed the tradition from his high school football days in Hazelton, Pa., where he was 3-0 at “Win or Weep” dances.
Maddon said about 20 Rays players plus staff attended the party.
He also tweeted the following: ”Everybody wearing Rays gear tonight at Legends on 2nd Street in Long Beach gets a free beer. It’s our win or weep party.”
“I put out the tweet at the right time,” Maddon said.
