The good news for the Wiregrass Ranch High softball team is that it has an above ,500 record.
Playing against primarily Hillsborough County competition, Wiregrass Ranch has had to battle teams like Freedom (11-7), Gaither (14-3), Sickles (4-12) and Steinbrenner (7-6). Against Pasco County teams, Wiregrass Ranch is 7-2 compared to 3-6 against squads from outside of the county.
The Bulls have developed into one of the better hitting lineups in the county, batting .310 with six home runs. Leading the team is utility player Shailynn Morales with a .396 average and 12 runs scored.
Another strength for Wiregrass Ranch has been that of its pitching staff, which has relied upon the arms of Morales, Lindsey Snyder and Marissa Cohen. The three have combined for an earned-run average of 1.84.
Wednesday, Wiregrass Ranch will travel to take on Gulf in a non-district matchup.
Pirates wins three of last five games
After winning its first two games, Pasco went through a stretch where it was 2-13. However, Pasco has won three of its last five games with victories against Fivay and two against Weeki Wachee.
Senior Amber Caudill has been a bright spot, batting .387 with 24 hits, including four home runs.
Pasco could be a darkhorse when Class 5A-District 7 tournament play begins. 5A-7 is one of the most talented districts in the area, with Brooksville Hernando and Brooksville Nature Coast holding down the No. 1 and No. 2 spots in the district.
