Wiregrass Ranch football coach leaving for new job

After just one year as head coach, Wiregrass Ranch’s Mike Lawrence has resigned to become the wide receivers and special teams coach at Bethany College, an NAIA school in Lindsborg, Kansas.

“Coach Lawrence has done an outstanding job over his time here at WRHS as an assistant and head coach,” athletic director Dave Wilson said in a statement. “I could not ask for anything more out of one of our coaches. Mike has spent countless hours improving our football program and making sure that our boys are better men on and off the playing field.”

Following back-to-back winless seasons, Lawrence, the former offensive coordinator, replaced coach Jeremy Shobe in late 2012 and took the Bulls to a 4-6 season in 2013. Lawrence, who snapped a 23-game losing streak last season, also helped 11 players advance to the collegiate level to play football.

Lawrence returns Kansas where he completed his collegiate playing career at Kansas State University as the now fourth all-time leading rusher in program history.

Wilson also said that Wiregrass administration will post the job immediately and look to fill the position quickly, as fall practice for area teams start in less than a month.
