TAMPA — Wharton finally let its strong-armed senior quarterback open up the Wildcats’ pass offense and he didn’t disappoint.
Chase Litton threw for 299 yards and two scores (and ran for another) to lead the Wildcats (3-1) to a win against the Sharks (1-2).
With visiting Riverview playing a soft pass coverage for most of the night, Litton picked apart the Sharks defense, completing 24-for-34 of his pass attempts.
Litton connected on a quick slant to Austin Tolley from eight yards out to open the scoring in the first quarter. Then, only four minutes later, Litton threw a 30-yard touchdown strike to Auden Tate.
Tolley finished with six receptions for 105 yards and Tate added nine for 113.
Sharks running back Fred McCoy accounted for most of the Riverview offense as he rushed for 122 yards on 15 carries, including an 18-yard touchdown run to cut the Wharton lead to 14-7 late in the second quarter.
The Wildcats answered with another touchdown with six seconds remaining in the half.
Wharton hosts East Bay next Friday.
