Player of the Year
Daniele Green, Mitchell, Sr.
Perhaps, across the county, there wasn’t a volleyball player that meant more to her team than Green. Her coach, Keith Paulk, said Green “could hit the ball just about any way” and that came in handy after the team started 4-5 and lost its starting libero and setter for the season. Stepping up defensively, Green picked up 347 digs to go along with 327 kills. Green’s consistent and stellar clutch play led the Mustangs to win 20 straight, including a district title and a historic postseason run to the program’s first region final berth.
Coach of the Year
Keith Paulk, Mitchell
It isn’t so much Paulk has coached the Mustangs for eight seasons, it’s that, despite the great players he has coached, Mitchell finally broke through to the region final for the first time in program history this season. Despite meeting the defending 6A state champion at that level, Paulk guided the team to the region final through a barrage of injuries and then turning to one of the county’s best players who stepped up in their absence. And, year in and out, despite the turnover in players and seniors, Paulk has always turned out one of the county’s best teams and a career record of 161-76 at Mitchell.
