Jack Guyton, Plant
WHY WE CHOSE HIM: The junior won the 1,600 meters at the Class 4A state track and field meet, grabbing the lead in the final 300 meters to become a state champion in 4 minutes, 11.86 seconds. About an hour later, Guyton won his second state title, this one in the 3,200 meters in 9:20.35.
COLLEGE PLANS: Undecided
Janae Caldwell, Spoto
WHY WE CHOSE HER: The sophomore won the 400 meters title at the Class 3A state meet, crossing the line in 55.50 seconds, becoming her school’s first state champion in any sport. Caldwell also took fourth in the 200 in 25.22. In April, she became her school’s first female county champion at the Vernon Korhn Hillsborough County Track Championships.
COLLEGE PLANS: Caldwell has received interest from Tennessee and Kansas and is hoping to be recruited by Florida. She plans to study business.
