Todd Jackson, Newsome
WHY WE CHOSE HIM: Jackson, a senior, won the 200 (22.35) and 400 (49.46) at the Western Conference Federal Division Track and Field Meet. Jackson’s time in the 400 set a Federal Division record, a mark he set two years ago as a sophomore. The meet was Jackson’s first this season competing in the 200, stepping in for an injured teammate to give Newsome the needed points to win. Jackson also ran the second leg on the 4x100 and anchored the 4x400 teams that finished in the top four.
COLLEGE PLANS: Jackson, a state medalist last season, has verbally committed to Florida International University and plans to study physical therapy.
Rachel Cazares, Gaither
WHY WE CHOSE HER: Cazares won the 800 (2:25.10) and 1,600 (5:21.90) events at the Western Conference American Division Track and Field Meet. Cazares also won the 800 at the USF/Steinbrenner Invitational in March with one of the fastest times in the state this season at 2:16.71.
COLLEGE PLANS: Cazares will run track for the University of North Florida next year.
