Tampa Tribune Athletes of the Week: April 7-12

Each week, the Tribune prep sports staff selects a Male and Female Athlete of the Week. The selections are based on athletic performance. For video, visit TBO.com/sports/preps to meet our selections.

Jack Taylor, Jesuit

WHY WE CHOSE HIM: The senior thrower helped Jesuit secure the Class 2A-District 10 track and field title last week with victories in the discus (159 feet, 4 inches), which was a personal record, and the shot put (50-5). Taylor, who finished fourth in the shot put at the 2A state meet last year, also won the shot put (49-9) and the discus (147-91⁄2) at the Walt Disney World Track and Field Open earlier this season.

COLLEGE PLANS: Taylor is undecided.

Claire Snyder, Holy Names

WHY WE CHOSE HER: The senior helped Holy Names secure the Class 2A-District 10 track and field title by winning the 1,600 meters in 5:21.84 and the 3,200 meters in 12:02.21. Snyder finished ninth in the 1,600 and third in the 3,200 at the 2A state meet last year.

COLLEGE PLANS: Snyder will compete on the cross country and track and field teams at the University of Georgia.
