Tampa Catholic 21, Frostproof 16

FROSTPROOF — The Crusaders remained undefeated in Class 3A-District 4 and moved to 5-1 overall with the victory against the Bulldogs.

Tampa Catholic opened the season with a 30-15 loss to perennial state power Madison County. However, the Crusaders have reeled off victories against Clearwater Central Catholic, Tarpon Springs, Fort Meade, Sarasota Cardinal Mooney and Frostproof.

Against the Bulldogs, quarterback Kyle Ploucher gave the Crusaders a lead they would not surrender when he scored on a 1-yard run early in the first quarter.

Tampa Catholic added to its lead in the second quarter when Ploucher connected on the first of his two touchdown passes, this one for 21 yards to Jake Romp.

Ploucher has now thrown 11 touchdown passes this season.

Cecil Cherry’s 10-yard run midway through the second quarter cut the Crusaders’ lead in half, 14-7.

Midway through the third, Ploucher connected with Trajan Herr on an 8-yard touchdown pass to make it 21-7.

Frostproof scored a safety and a touchdown in the fourth quarter to make it close, but TC held on for the victory.
