Tampa Bay Christian will have a football season after all.
The Rams have joined the Florida Christian Association of Private and Parochial Schools and will play six-man football, beginning Sept. 8 against Veritas Prep.
Tampa Bay Christian will take the place of Hope Academy, which canceled its season, according to Tampa Bay Christian athletic director Chad Goebert. The Rams canceled their 11-man season last week due to dwindling numbers.
'The boys are excited,' Goebert said. 'As hard as they worked, they deserved the chance to play some football.'
Because the season already has started, Tampa Bay Christian is taking over Hope's schedule. The Rams will start the season with an 0-3 record and will not be eligible for the postseason.
Tampa Bay Christian principal Jack Powell is running practices until a coach is named. Goebert said the school gave former coach Dennis Duggan the option to take over the program, but he declined.
