WESLEY CHAPEL — Sunlake and Wiregrass Ranch salvaged their spring jamboree from the previous night, when the three-team scrimmage was postponed because of weather.
On Friday night, the Seahawks played the Bulls in a full game, with Wesley Chapel having to back out because of testing and graduation ceremonies. The Seahawks showcased their balanced offense to beat the Bulls 33-22.
“I’m glad we got the game in,” Sunlake coach Bill Browning said. “Put in a call upstairs and he must’ve listened. We got some good work in tonight. We got it on film and we’ll go over it and correct our mistakes.”
Sunlake running back Nate Johnson provided the production the Seahawks are expecting out of him this fall, rushing for 97 yards, highlighted by a 36-yard TD in the first quarter. Seahawks starting quarterback Justin Hall tossed a couple of touchdown passes and threw for 87 yards, including a 13-yard TD to receiver Nick Valdez.
Hall’s counterpart, Shane Bucenell, did a little bit of everything for the Bulls, as the senior threw for 247 yards and two touchdowns against a Sunlake defense featuring nine new starters.
