ST. PETERSBURG — A trio of St. Petersburg Catholic running backs contributed four touchdowns in Friday night's 35-10 win against visiting Admiral Farragut.
Juniors Jacquan Fuller and Stephon Williams, along with sophomore Tony Jones, ran for a combined 217 yards for the Barons.
“It's amazing to share the ball with [Williams and Jones],” Fuller said. “Blocking for each other and all that builds a camaraderie in the backfield.”
The Blue Jackets defense did their best to contain the trio, but on multiple occasions Williams and Jones carried a pile of defenders for an extra five or 10 yards after contact, while Fuller struck lightning through open field.
“It all starts in the weight room,” Williams said, “I put in the work so that if the ball comes to me, anyone in my way is going down.”
Admiral Farragut's junior quarterback Dalton Collins completed eight of 16 passes for 104 yards. However, his three interceptions helped swing the momentum back in the Barons' favor.
Coming off a disappointing loss last week, St. Petersburg Catholic coach Steve Dudley knew some changes had to be made.
“Going into this game we had to focus on the basics, on hustling to the ball,” Dudley said. “But with big bodies like [Williams and Jones], and a home run threat in Fuller, it helps ... keep our defense off the field.”
