NEW PORT RICHEY — Ridgewood got its first victory of the season by defeating visiting Wesley Chapel in a Class 5A-District 7 matchup Friday night.
The Rams’ ground game was the deciding factor. Ridgewood’s rushing attack (328 yards) surpassed Wesley Chapel’s total offensive output (238 yards).
Glass Wilson led the Rams’ offense with 242 yards on 38 carries.
The Wildcats (0-5) opened the scoring with a 14-yard touchdown pass from Scott Edwards to Duane Lewis.
The Rams (1-5) answered with a 7-yard touchdown pass from Nick Michaels to Jerry Opalka.
The Wildcats scored two more times — on a 9-yard run by Jose Williams, then on a 76-yard punt return by Mark Labarbera — for a 21-6 lead at halftime.
Labarbera finished the game with 14 carries for 118 yards.
The Rams came out in the second half with a big third quarter, scoring 24 points to take the lead.
The game-winner came on a 34-yard pass from Michaels to Chris Grant in the third quarter.
