Jesuit High junior Cole Gibbs verbally committed to the University of North Carolina, Tigers baseball coach Richie Warren said.
Gibbs, a 6-foot-3 left-handed hitter, is an outfielder, and Warren expects him to hit in the middle of the Tigers’ lineup this season.
Warren said Gibbs had offers from Florida, Florida State and Alabama. After a solid showing in the Perfect Game 2013 World Wood Bat Association Underclass World Championship Oct. 10-14 in Fort Myers, Warren said Gibbs, who had been developing a relationship with UNC, made his final decision.
Last season, Gibbs hit .462 in 16 plate appearances, driving in seven runs and scoring seven with a double and a home run.
Former Jesuit standouts Adrian Chacon and Spencer Trayner are freshmen at North Carolina.
