NEED TO KNOW: The Mustangs return to the region final for the second straight season, and they’ve done it in dominating fashion by outscoring opponents 134-6. Freshman Sabrina Wagner has 39 goals, while Casey Bruno has 15 goals, Amanda Hayes 13 and UConn-commit Danielle Gottwik and Nova-commit Balea Schumacher each have 10. Keeper Erica Disbrow has 17 shutouts. The Bulldogs are a region finalist for the third straight time, and are also the defending C4A state champs. Melbourne is ranked second in the state by MaxPreps, while Mitchell is fourth.
WHO: Land O’ Lakes (25-1) at Palm Coast Matanzas (23-1-2)
NEED TO KNOW: The Gators are region finalists for the first time since 2004 and have done so by outscoring opponents 146-13 and not allowing a goal in their previous nine games. This gives keeper Lauren Arrabito 15 shutouts, while sophomore Tori Cannata and Samantha Epifanio lead the way with 27 and 21 goals. Brook Silvest also has 19 goals, Savanna Ronk has 12 and senior Catherine Gray has a team-high 19 assists. The Pirates won their first two region tournament games by a combined score of 13-0 and they’ve outscored opponents 153-11. Matanzas is ranked 16th in the state in Class 3A, according to MaxPreps, while Land O’ Lakes is 27th.
