Prep Athletes of the Week: March 31-April 5

Each week, the Tribune prep sports staff selects a Male and Female Athlete of the Week. The selections are based on athletic performance. For video, visit TBO.com/sports/preps to meet our selections.

Alex Faedo, Alonso

WHY WE CHOSE HIM: Faedo threw a no-hitter and struck out nine to lead the Ravens past Bloomingdale, 9-0, in a district game. Faedo, a 6-foot-5 right-handed pitcher, improved to 5-0 with the win. He owns a 0.65 ERA with 48 strikeouts in 321⁄3 innings this season.

COLLEGE PLANS: Faedo has signed to play at the University of Florida.

Janae Caldwell, Spoto

WHY WE CHOSE HER: Caldwell became her school’s first female county champion at the Vernon Korhn Hillsborough County Track Championships last week, winning the 200 meters in 24.87 and the 400 in 56.06. Caldwell, the Class 2A state runner-up in the 400 last year as a freshman, also set a personal record in the 200 meters. Her time in the 400 currently ranks 12th in the state, while her 200 time ranks 24th.

COLLEGE PLANS: Caldwell has received interest from Tennessee and Kansas and is hoping to be recruited by Florida. She plans to study business.
