Anthony Rhynes, Middleton
WHY WE CHOSE HIM: In his first year competing in track and field, the senior won Class 3A-District 9 titles in the 100- and 200-meter dash events. Rhynes finished the 100 in 10.99 seconds and took the 200 in 22.42, just short of his personal bests of 10.6 and 21.9. Rhynes also runs the anchor on the 4x100 relay team, which advanced to state last season.
COLLEGE PLANS: Rhynes is undecided.
Erica Oosterhout, Plant
WHY WE CHOSE HER: The junior won the Class 4A tennis team and overall singles championship last week. She defeated Newsome’s Kylie Moulin, 6-1, 6-1 for the overall 4A title, making state history as it was the first time two girls from Hillsborough County battled for the No. 1 singles title. In addition, Oosterhout and teammate Gabrielle Rodriguez won the state and overall No. 1 doubles title, defeating East Lake’s Angel Deng and Kimberly Herrock 6-1, 6-4, for the overall 4A championship.
COLLEGE PLANS: Oosterhout said she will make a decision on a school within the next month.
