SEMINOLE – Pinellas Park’s offensive strategy is as simple as it is effective. Run the ball and dare opponents to stop it.
So far, no one has.
The Patriots (4-0, 1-0 Class 7A-District 9) used a bruising trio of backs to gain 459 yards on the ground and overwhelm Seminole in the second half to turn a close game into a road victory Friday.
“We’re a blue-collar team, and we play team football, but Pierre (Johnson) is our guy. He’s our do-it-all player,” said Pinellas Park coach Kenneth Crawford. “(Kal-el Williams) is the big bus and (Donte Maxson) can tote it too, but I’m still surprised we wore them down as quickly as we did in the third quarter.”
The trio of Johnson (five carries, 148 yards, TD), Williams (11-120, 2 TDs) and Maxson (7-88, TD) led the rushing onslaught that accounted for 13 plays of 10-plus yards.
Three plays into the second half, Maxson raced 67 yards off left tackle, breaking tackles at the line and outracing a pair of defenders for the touchdown that broke the game open.
Williams scored on a 9-yard burst one possession later to put the game away.
Ra’Quanne Dickens led Seminole (1-3, 0-1) with 108 yards rushing.
