Player of the Year
David Castillo, Sunlake, Sr.
It was Castillo, the lanky left-hander, that propelled the Seahawks to their first state tournament and to become the first Pasco County team to do so since 2002. In three region starts, Castillo was 3-0 in 21 1/3 innings with 26 strikeouts while allowing only four earned runs and 12 hits. For the season, 9-4 with 1.60 ERA and 100 strikeouts, including a no-hitter. Castillo was also impressive at the plate, batting .343 with 33 runs scored, 34 hits, 15 RBIs, eight doubles and two triples, plus he had 14 walks and 12 stolen bases.
Coach of the Year
Dick Rohrberg, Sunlake
Despite being the district runner-up in Class 5A-8, Rohrberg led the Seahawks to the state semifinals. In his sixth season , Rohrberg made the right adjustments in the first round of the playoffs playing, perhaps, a more talented Brooksville Hernando, then held as Sunlake defeated Pasco in the second round.
