NEW PORT RICHEY — At the start of the game, it was learned that Mitchell running back Christian Trinidad would not play because of a shoulder injury.
Fortunately for the Mustangs, Nate Boler and Ryan Marsh picked up the slack, leading Mitchell (3-2) to a dramatic victory over host River Ridge (2-3).
Royal Knights running back Ben Perdomo led the team in rushing with 186 yards, including two touchdowns.
After Boler scored on a 52-yard run toward the end of the third quarter, River Ridge came back with two sustained touchdown drives to tie the score at 21.
With seconds remaining, Mitchell’s John Schwindt calmly booted a 33-yard field goal for the win.
For Mitchell, Boler rushed for 126 yards and Marsh finished with 78 yards.
During the second half, only one pass was attempted, an incomplete toss by River Ridge’s Patrick Mathieson.
The Mustangs defense was led by linebacker Larry Couch, who had 19 tackles.
Next week, Mitchell is at Sunlake and River Ridge is at Anclote.
