Lacrosse tournament returns
WESLEY CHAPEL - The Dick's Sporting Goods Tournament of Champions, the boys' high school and youth club lacrosse national championships, returns to Wesley Chapel District Park on Friday through Sunday with more than 50 teams in the elite, rising star, U15 and the new U13 division. Pool play begins Friday for all divisions with the elite club championship Sunday at 1 p.m. Teams from 16 different states and two Canadian provinces will be vying for titles in each division. The Copperheads (Georgia) bring a strong group of teams looking to become the first American elite champion, while several Canadian teams, led by Ontario's Edge Junior Selects, and the two-time (2008-09) champions from New Westminster looking to return the title to Canada.Fourteen teams will represent Florida, including host Tampa Tribe and the Palm Beach Storm. The Tribe will also have teams in each division. A Fan Zone also will be part of the weekend festivities. The Fan Zone will feature vendors ranging from lacrosse equipment suppliers to sports massage providers.
