Gibson Will Golf For King
Kelsey Gibson, one of the area's top girls golfers, will play for King this season. Deedra Gibson, Kelsey's mother, said early Thursday that King officials gave them the OK to compete for the Lions. Kelsey, a sophomore, is being home schooled this year and currently is residing with her paternal grandparents in Temple Terrace, which is in King's district. Kelsey Gibson's first match was scheduled for today, but it has been cancelled because Tampa Catholic could not field a team, Deedra Gibson said. King, which now has five players with its new addition, has its next match scheduled for Tuesday against Gaither and Plant at Emerald Greens. Kelsey Gibson helped lead Tampa Prep to three consecutive state tournament appearances from 2004-2006, when she began playing for the Terrapins as a sixth grader. She was the Class 1A-District 14 medalist last season at Tampa Prep, and in each of the last two seasons she was named to the Tribune's All-Hillsborough County first team. She transferred from Tampa Prep after last year's golf season ended because her family moved to Plant City.
