BRANDON — Cruz Mendez ran a sweep into the right corner of the end zone for a two-point conversion in Friday night’s second overtime to give Winter Park International Community the victory over Seffner Christian.
Caleb Newman ran 10 yards for a score on the first play of the second OT and Dalton Kocsis booted the extra point to give Seffner the lead.
Matthew Sharpe hit JohnRyan Alligood for a 4-yard touchdown on third down before the Comets decided to go for two and end the Sunshine State Athletic Conference showdown.
Mendez recorded 74 yards rushing and Joseph McGee caught five passes for 92 yards to lead International Community (5-1, 5-0 Sunshine). McGee’s last reception set up Sharpe’s 1-yard touchdown dive with 1:08 left in the fourth quarter to tie it for the Comets.
Robbie Shell totaled 193 yards rushing for Seffner Christian (5-1, 5-1), including touchdown runs of 66 and 23 yards in the second quarter for a 12-6 halftime lead.
The Crusaders had a chance to run out the clock in the fourth quarter, but fumbled and the Comets drove 85 yards for the tying score. Kocsis narrowly missed a 30-yard field goal with one second left in regulation and both teams failed to score in the first OT.
