WESLEY CHAPEL — Noah Siegrist rushed for 132 yards on 23 carries and Hudson (3-1) ruined homecoming night for Wesley Chapel in the Class 5A-District 7 opener for both teams.
The Wildcats got on the board first when a 92-yard toss from Scott Edwards to Eric Bennett gave Wesley Chapel (0-4) the lead midway through the first quarter. The extra point was blocked.
Hudson went three-and-out on the next drive but caught a break when the Wildcats fumbled the punt in Wesley Chapel territory.
Hudson took advantage of the turnover, and a 4-yard touchdown run and two-point conversion by Joey Caruso gave the Cobras an 8-6 lead they would not relinquish.
Siegrist ran for 89 yards on 14 first-half carries to lead a Hudson rushing attack that had 142 yards at the break.
The Cobras dominated the line of scrimmage for most of the night and finished with 230 yards on the ground and 312 total yards.
The Wildcats blocked two punts in the first half and had five sacks to keep the contest close, but a 20-yard touchdown run by Zach Russell with 4:27 left gave Hudson its winning margin.
