TAMPA — A pair of fourth-quarter touchdown passes from backup quarterback Lawrence Dawsey sparked the Hillsborough Terriers to a 21–18 comeback win against the visiting Clearwater Tornadoes in the Kickoff Classic.
Clearwater got on the scoreboard twice in the second quarter. Junior quarterback Garrisin Bryant hit Zachary Lehman on a 28-yard touchdown pass and Adarius Lemons’ scored on a 1-yard run.
The Tornadoes’ defense held quarterback Dwayne Lawson and the Terriers’ offense in check but gave up a 93-yard kickoff return to Rudy Dawson that cut Clearwater’s halftime lead to 12-7.
In the fourth quarter, Dawsey completed Hillsborough’s comeback with touchdown passes to Mike Hampton for 73 yards and Xavier Byrd for 48 yards.
The Tornadoes’ Garrisin Bryant completed 13 of 17 passes to seven different players for 163 yards and a touchdown.
