LOCAL TEAMS: Freedom (Tyler Bray, Liam Doherty, Chandler Howe, Jimmy Jones, Charles Seward); Newsome (Tyler Bakich, John Michael Coultas, Mark Nauert, Andrew Walley, Kyle West); Plant (Robbie Eisch, Chris Kern, Patrick Mills, Todd Sessums, Aaron Tobin)
LOCAL INDIVIDUAL: Jacob Penny (Durant)
OUTLOOK: Newsome returns three golfers from last season’s third-place Class 2A state tournament team. Florida State commit Tyler Bakich earned district medalist honors and finished at 4 under at the region tournament. Joined by senior and Florida Southern commit John Michael Coultas (tie for second-place district finish and fourth-place region finish) at the top of the squad, the Wolves have an eye on a state title and one more shot at defending champ Bradenton Lakewood Ranch, which has been Newsome’s 18-hole nemesis for the better part of two seasons.
Plant cruised to a district title with the top three scorers and four of the top six rounds, including an individual win for junior Patrick Mills. Plant reached the state tournament behind a 70 from freshman Chris Kern as all five Panthers turned in rounds of 80 or lower at the region tourney.
Freedom junior Liam Doherty finished as the runner-up at the Class 3A-District 10 tournament after losing a two-hole playoff. He continued to lead the Patriots with a region tourney top score of 70 to help his team to the state tournament. The Patriots finished as the region runner-up to Plant with Doherty’s round and a top-10 finish for senior and Florida Southern commit Jimmy Jones.
Durant freshman Jacob Penny had an excellent showing during the regular season and made the most of his region appearance, turning in a third-place 3-under 69 at Venice’s Venetian to earn a trip to the state tournament.

Yo, a senior, makes her first appearance at the state tournament after four standout seasons at King. After tying Romeo through 18 holes at the district tournament, Yo fell just short of a district title in a playoff hole. Yo earned a state tournament berth with a runner-up finish at the region tournament with a 75 at Countryside.
Newsome junior Meghna Patel is making her first appearance at the state tournament after she followed a runner-up finish (77) at the district tournament with a fifth-place finish at the region tournament.
Countryside senior Madison Glennie won a region playoff hole to advance to the state tournament, returning for the first time since her freshman season, when she finished in a tie for 29th place.
