TAMPA — Freedom High junior Scott Patchan, one of the most highly recruited defensive linemen in the country, verbally committed to the University of Miami, Patriots coach Todd Donahoe confirmed on Saturday.
“Scott and I talked about waiting but I think he went down there for the (Miami spring intra-squad game) and thought this is the place for me,” Donohoe said. “He feels good about his decision.”
Patchan’s father, Matt Patchan Sr., played for Miami and his brother, Matt Jr., played for Armwood, Florida and Boston College and could be selected in this year’s NFL draft.
Several recruiting services have the 6-foot-6, 225-pound Scott Patchan rated as one of the country’s top 20 defensive ends.
Patchan chose Miami over more than 20 other programs, including Florida State, South Florida and Central Florida.
