Freedom falls short in 7A state softball championshop

VERO BEACH – Freedom High's softball team lost in the Class 7A state softball championship Thursday night to Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas, 1-0. Freedom was making its first state tournament – and postseason – appearance. The Patriots end the season 22-4. St. Thomas Aquinas (22-5) scored in the bottom of the sixth inning when Rachel Collins hit a RBI double to left field to score pinch runner Erica Nori. In the top of the seventh inning, St. Thomas Aquinas pitcher Meghan King recorded consecutive strikeouts and ended the game with a forced pop fly to the mound. Freshman Maddy Hall had Freedom's lone hit of the game, a single in the top of the sixth inning.
