TAMPA - Chamberlain High is in search of a new head varsity football coach. DJ Mayo resigned as the Chiefs' head football coach after just one season. Chamberlain was 4-6 in 2012. "We are in the process of putting together a group to evaluate resumés and conduct interviews," Chamberlain athletic directior Don Hill said Monday via text message. Mayo replaced longtime Hillsborough County coach Joe Severino and inherited a program that finished 1-9 in 2011.
Mayo resigned from Chamberlain on Monday morning to accept a coaching position at Warner University in Lake Wales, Warner sports information director Kendall Sherrouse confirmed to the Tribune. Warner begins its inaugural football season this fall and Mayo will serve as quarterbacks coach. According to Sherrouse, Mayo was on Warner's campus Monday to meet with head coach Jeff Schaum.
