Crusaders’ offense unstoppable in rout

VALRICO — Seffner Christian Academy only ran four offensive plays in the first quarter and 13 through three quarters. But the Crusaders made most of the plays count Thursday in a 57-0 victory over the Seven Rivers Warriors.

Seffner quarterback Caleb Newman and Robbie Shell put on a show, with Shell scoring on a 52-yard run the second time he touched the ball. Juvon Johnson caught a two-point conversion pass to make it 8-0.

Then Newman went into action. He scored on runs of 84 yards in the first quarter and 72 yards in the second quarter. He also had three touchdown passes, the first a 25-yard score to Karmi Mackey and a pair of 23-yard touchdowns to Shell in the second and third quarters.

Seven Rivers played with 12 dressed players, forcing the players to play both sides of the ball. In the first quarter, the team had three first downs, including one on a 35-yard run by John Mazza.

Seffner’s Mackey ran back the second-half kickoff 80 yards for his second touchdown, and Richie O’Connor scored late in the game on a 20-yard run.

Dalton Kocsis kicked seven extra points and Newman converted a two-point pass to Juvon Johnson.

With the win, Seffner Christian breaks a three-way tie and wins the south division of the Sunshine State Conference.
