Cross Country: Region Preview

Class 4A-Region 2

WHERE: North Port High

WHEN: Saturday, 8 a.m.

AREA SCHOOLS: Bloomingdale, Durant, East Lake, Freedom, Steinbrenner, Plant, Newsome, North Port, Palm Harbor, Plant City, Sickles, St. Petersburg, Strawberry Crest, Wharton, Wiregrass Ranch

OUTLOOK: Plant’s girls are looking to reach the state meet for the 27th consecutive year, and barring something miraculous from another competitor, the Panthers will achieve that goal. On the boys side, Plant’s Jack Guyton will seek his third consecutive individual victory after winning the county championships and the district meet in the same week. Sickles and Newsome’s boys and girls both have shots at reaching the state meet as well.

Class 3A-Region 3

WHERE: Sydney Dover Trail

AREA SCHOOLS: Brandon, Chamberlain, Gaither, King, Middleton, Robinson

WHEN: Saturday, 8:30 a.m.

OUTLOOK: If district champion Robinson runs well, it should qualify for state in the boys and girls divisions. In the girls individual race, look for Chamberlain’s Maggie Parrish, Brandon’s Eliana Ochoa and King’s Sneha Sathish to compete near the front of the pack. On the boys side, Middleton’s Daniel Dean and Robinson’s Jack Rogers will again battle it out.

Class 2A-Region 3

WHERE: Anclote High

WHEN: Saturday, 9 a.m.

AREA SCHOOLS: Anclote, Bayshore, Berkeley Prep, Holy Names, Jesuit.

OUTLOOK: Jesuit is almost a lock to advance to the state meet, along with Academy of the Holy Names. Jesuit’s Tim O’Loughlin has made steady improvements after struggling with a leg injury earlier in the season. O’Loughlin should be near the front of the pack.

Class 1A-Region 3

WHERE: Melbourne Holy Trinity Academy

WHEN: Saturday, 9 a.m.

AREA SCHOOLS: Calvary Christian, Canterbury, Carrollwood Day School, Indian Rocks Christian, Keswick Christian, Seffner Christian, Shorecrest, Tampa Bay HEAT

OUTLOOK: Seffner Christian’s boys can qualify for the state meet, but the Crusaders need a strong effort from Noah Perkins, who has been nursing strained tendons in his foot.
