TAMPA — The Chiefs’ Dakarai Highsmith scored a pair of first-half touchdowns to lead Chamberlain (3-1, 3-0 Class 6A-District 8) to a victory against previously undefeated King (3-1, 1-1).
The Lions had no answer for the Chiefs’ run-option offense in the first half. Chamberlain ran 34 offensive plays to only seven for the Lions. Highsmith’s scores came on runs of 13 and 9 yards.
King employed a run blitz in the second half that slowed the Chiefs, but the Lions couldn’t get in the end zone on their five offensive series.
Playing from behind, King went to the air 14 times (completing only three) and its leading rusher, Greg Thompson, was limited to only seven runs for 41 yards.
Highsmith finished with 90 yards on 27 rushes while Daishaun Roberts added 65 yards on 21 carries.
King came into the game averaging 265 rushing yards per game but was held to only 34.
Chamberlain plays Friday at Brandon, while King plays at Blake the same night.
