TAMPA — Carrollwood Day School needed to take out some serious frustrations and it did against Shorecrest Prep with a rout Thursday.
The game was delayed for an hour and had only two referees because of a miscommunication concerning scheduling.
Carrollwood Day scored early and often. The Patriots dropped their first two games of the season and were in desperation mode. New quarterback Taylor King, a transfer from Freedom, tossed three touchdown passes, all to junior Mike Smith. Each touchdown went for more than 30 yards.
It was a big game for a team that needed a big win.
“We lost two games coming in but I felt we played well enough,’’ Carrollwood Day coach Lane McLaughlin said. “We worked harder this week, we practiced in pads, and we needed to have a big game and we got it. Now it’s time to get back to work.’’
The Patriots started strong early with a short touchdown run from Elias Early, who had two touchdown runs. Carrollwood Day jumped out to a 20-0 lead and never looked back.
