BRANDON — Make that 8-for-8 for Brandon High’s wrestling team.
The Eagles captured their eighth straight tournament behind nine placers and a meet-high seven individual champions in totaling 302.5 points.
The 30th Tony Ippolito Memorial Tournament concluded Saturday night with the same results since 1994 — this time the host Eagles crushed a tourney-record 35 teams, including runner-up North Port, which had 187.
The Ippolito victory was Brandon’s 21st in a row and 28th overall.
In a pre-finals tribute, nine members of the 1973-74 teams arrived to pay homage to former Brandon mentor Jim Graves.
Graves originated “The Streak” before Russ Cozart took over as coach.
Brandon champions were sophomore Frank Bruno (41-0 won-loss record) at 106 pounds, sophomore Kyle Norstrem (56-0) at 113, senior James Flint at (18-0) at 126, junior Dylan Lucas (53-0) at 132, junior Dakota Greene (55-1) at 160, junior Dontae McGee (44-0) at 170 and junior Robert Enmon (52-2) at 220.
Flint earned the Outstanding Wrestler Lightweights award by solving Tampa Prep’s Donoven Hough, a two-time state champ, 4-3 in the final.
Robinson’s Luis Peguero, a 2013 state champ, was the Outstanding Wrestler Heavyweights, after topping former Alaska state champ and current Harmony junior Sawyer Root 4-2 in overtime.
