Boys Soccer Region Quarterfinals


Mitchell (20-3-1) at Lake Region (16-5-1)

NEED TO KNOW: The Mustangs slipped in the district final after allowing an own goal, but coach Oscar Ubillus will have them rebounding behind senior leading scorer Mico Petrovich, who has 30 goals. Sophomore Brady Friedman has added 15 goals while keeper Mitch Szydlowdski has eight shutouts. The Thunder were held scoreless by Kathleen in their district title game and scored just 57 goals this season to Mitchell’s 100.

Lakeland Kathleen (20-4-2) at Wiregrass Ranch (20-1-2)

NEED TO KNOW: The Bulls won their first district title thanks to two quick goals by leading scorer Bryce Wilson, who has a 27 this season to go with his 31 assists. Keeper Alex Cypriano has 12 shutouts, while freshman Chris Faddoul has shown he’s an upcoming playmaker on a team outscoring opponents 100-19. The Red Devils are led by their two top goal scorers: Juan Francisco (21) and Andrew Yarnell (20), while Gildardo Mata, Jr. runs the midfield.


Brooksville Nature Coast (12-12) at Sunlake (26-1-1)

NEED TO KNOW: The Seahawks won their third straight district title thanks to sophomore leading scorer Remi Pimm, who has a county-high 55 goals, while junior Connor Spencer has 37 assists and 23 goals. Cobi Shermo has 21 goals and keeper Danny Hrenko has 19 shutouts as the team has outscored opponents 155-16. The Sharks have talented freshman Gilbert Delgado, who scored two goals in the 3A-7 district final vs. Citrus.

Land O’ Lakes (15-7-1) at Citrus (17-3-1)

NEED TO KNOW: The Gators are back where they belong in the region tournament after missing it last season. This year they are led by their two top scorers, Jordan Dollbaum and Glenn Johnson, who have 28 and 27 goals, respectively. The Hurricanes are led by Josh Marsden, who has a team-best 30 goals and 14 assists.


Bishop McLaughlin (15-2-2) at Shorecrest Prep (20-2-1)

NEED TO KNOW: The Hurricanes are led by a pair of goal scorers, but Alex Stafford has 34 goals, while Eric Pitton has 18. Bishop is having one its best seasons ever, already scoring 91 goals as the 1A-5 district runner up. The Chargers are outscoring opponents this season 83-22. Their top goal scorer, Kalju Jake Nekvasil, has 13 goals and Robert Zolper and Taylor DeGeare both have 12. Each player on Shorecrest’s roster has at least one goal.
