Bishop McLaughlin Catholic High has named Craig Moore head football coach, athletic director Joe Jasinski announced Tuesday afternoon.
Moore has been an assistant coach for the Hurricanes two of the past three years, and during the year between, Moore coached at Anclote.
Moore also served as an assistant coach at Immokalee High.
Moore played in the NFL in 1999 with the San Diego Chargers and had an eight-year career in the Arena Football League and spent a year in the Xtreme Football League in 2001.
Jasinski said Moore will take over immediately and fill his coaching staff in the next few days.
Moore replaces Derrick Alexander, the former FSU and NFL defensive lineman who was hired in 2011 and compiled a 12-19 record in three seasons. Alexander stepped down last week to spend more time with his family.
In 2013, the Hurricanes had a 2-8 record in their first and only season in Class 3A-District 4. They will return to play in the Sunshine State Athletic Conference this fall.
