Carrollwood Day 42, Bishop McLaughlin 14

C'WOOD DAY...42 B. McLAUGHLIN...14 SPRING HILL - Carrollwood Day, trailing 14-13 in the second quarter, clawed its way back into the lead by scoring four consecutive touchdowns to defeat Bishop McLaughlin. The Patriots (8-0, 3-0 SSAC) scored on their first two possessions. But the Hurricanes (1-7, 1-2) took a 14-13 lead midway through the second quarter when quarterback Mitch Ritter ran along the left sideline for a 38-yard touchdown on third-and-inches. But just before halftime, Carrollwood Day QB Billy Embody connected with Deuce Gruden on a 22 yard-touchdown pass, giving the Patriots a 21-14 lead they would not relinquish.
The second half was all Patriots. The defense blitzed continuously to shut down the Hurricanes' offense. Carrollwood Day went on to score three more touchdowns, two rushing and one passing, to complete the scoring. "At the half, I told my players that it was gut-check time," Carrollwood Day coach Lane McLaughlin said. "We lost to them at home last year and we needed to step up our intensity." Carroll.
