NEED TO KNOW: The invitational will showcase many of Florida’s top boys basketball programs and players. Host Berkeley Prep, led by 6-foot-5 Texas Tech bound guard Justin Gray, enters the weekend undefeated at 13-0 and as the top ranked team in Class 4A. On Monday, the Buccaneers won the championship game of Kingdom of the Sun national tournament in Ocala. Orlando Lake Highland Prep senior guard Joel Berry, who will play for the North Carolina Tar Heels in the fall, is the top rated player in the state and third best point guard in the nation according to ESPN and is the two-time recipient of the Florida Dairy Farmers Mr. Basketball Award, which goes annually to the best player in Florida. Trey Mourning, the son of famed NBA and Georgetown University center Alonzo Mourning, is a 6-9 senior averaging 30.2 points and 11 rebounds per game at Ransom Everglades and is currently being recruited to play at Georgetown, Florida, and Stanford. Tampa Prep and Jesuit have brought home state championships to Hillsborough County the past two years, with Tampa Prep winning the 3A crown in 2012 and Jesuit winning 5A last spring. Tampa Catholic, which reached the 3A state final four in 2011, is led by 6-6 small forward Chivarsky Corbett, who has signed with Delaware, and sophomore guard Thomas Dziagwa. Tampa Prep sophomore Juwan Durham, a 6-9 center, is regarded as one of the top 25 recruits in the Class of 2016. Community School of Naples senior Jeff Merton, who will play for Rollins College next year, has scored over 2,000 points in his high school career. Polk County powerhosue Kathleen is undefeated at 12-0.
