Kevin Heron, Bloomingdale
WHY WE CHOSE HIM: Heron helped the Bulls to victories in the distance medley and the 4x800 relay and a runner-up finish in the 4x400 relay at the 44th annual Nash Higgins Relays. Heron’s 800-meter splits were around 2 minutes flat, and his 400 time hovered around 50 seconds. Bloomingdale’s boys are the defending 4x800 state champions and appear capable of making another run at a state title this season.
COLLEGE PLANS: Heron, a senior, is being recruited by the University of North Florida and Florida International University.
Lace Smith, Bloomingdale
WHY WE CHOSE HER: Smith, a junior, posted two shutouts last week to stay undefeated on the mound at 7-0. Smith had 10 strikeouts in a 4-0 win over Riverview and 13 strikeouts in a 3-0 win over rival Newsome. Smith has a 0.32 ERA so far this season.
COLLEGE PLANS: Smith has verbally committed to the University of Buffalo.
