Alonso graduate Fernandez to make MLB debut

It didn't take long for Jose Fernandez to prove his worth to the Miami Marlins.
Fernandez, a right-handed starting pitcher and 2011 graduate of Alonso High, has been added to the Marlins' Opening Day roster and is scheduled to make his first major league start Apr. 7 against the Mets in New York.
Ricky Nolasco will start Miami's opener Monday at Washington.
The addition of Fernandez was made Sunday following injuries to right-handers Nate Eovaldi and Henderson Alvarez, both of whom are expected to miss about a month.
Fernandez was 14-1 with a 1.75 ERA in 25 games in the minor leagues last season. The Marlins drafted him 14th overall in the 2011 amateur draft.
